I don’t get a chance to travel much myself, but if I did and wanted to write about my adventures, then my website would look something similiar to this. Plenty of colorful images and meaningful, but not overdone, interactivity. Languages used were HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Libraries/Frameworks used were jQuery, Owl Carousel, and Animation on Scroll.
